The Shift is an exhibition about how identity changes under sustained pressure.
Using Akwa Ibom as its reference point, it maps the effects of Atlantic trade systems, colonial restructuring, religious transformation, and internal social change — not as separate events, but as overlapping forces that disrupted cultural continuity and reshaped how people expressed who they were.
The exhibition does not present history as a fixed story. It traces what persists through disruption: what is retained, what is altered, what emerges in response.
The Shift brings together artists working with memory, loss, adaptation, and transformation in Akwa Ibom identity. Moving through continuity, disruption, and rebuilding, the exhibition shows how culture changes through what is remembered, what is altered, and what survives.
