This chapter, and more ultimately, this book’s aim is to express the relationship between the society and the church (and its responsibilities). We’ll be taking a biblical approach, a systemic approach and probably some trips down memory lane, History.

Sociology is at present not only an instrument for the understanding of the character and functioning of the social relationships, their validity, and their diseases, it is also intended to be an instrument of social change, recovery, transformation, and reformation. Growth is very integral in any relationship of any institution with society and the people.

The unity of the church is not only the nature by which it thrives; it is also an imperative arising out of its obligation and intention to make its special contribution towards meeting the inescapable demand of the re-integration of a disintegrated society. The word “schism”, which means divisiveness, is being used amongst theologians a lot as regards the problems facing the church today. If a house is divided against itself, the house cannot stand (Mark 3:25). Doctrinal differences and biased interpretations of the scriptures have fueled this divide.

Background also factors in. By background, I mean the environment and household we all grew (or grow) in. This remains a concern still in the body of Christ and even plays a huge role in how society is being affected. What is the end goal?
