The development of the 'Practical Counselling Curriculum' represents an integration of African indigenous wisdom and globally validated psychological theories. This book is designed to serve as a holistic guide for counsellors, educators, school leaders, and student development practitioners who seek culturally responsive and scientifically grounded frameworks for effective counselling delivery.

As Africa faces rapid transitions in social, educational, technological, and vocational domains, the role of the counsellor becomes increasingly vital. This curriculum is a response to the growing need for context-sensitive interventions—combining traditional values such as Ubuntu, communal healing, and oral traditions with contemporary practices like psychometric testing, digital career platforms, and trauma-informed therapy.

Each chapter blends thematic depth with practical tools, case examples, and culturally relevant applications. The text also introduces the Attitude Behavioural Therapy (ABT) framework—a new indigenous model of counselling and psychotherapy developed to help reconcile conflicting moral, spiritual, and psychological experiences among African clients.

We hope this volume empowers counsellors to act not only as helpers, but as healers, mentors, advocates, and nation builders.
