DEAR POSTPARTUM MAMA, TAKE IT EASY ON YOURSELF. ❤️
You've probably heard all kinds of advice about getting your postpartum body back.
Tummy wraps.
Tying your tummy with a wrapper.
Drinking hot water first thing in the morning.
Avoiding cold water.
Ajụ mbaise.
Pressing your tummy with hot water.
Agbo.
And all sorts of traditional mixtures.
All because you want to lose the pregnancy weight and flatten your postpartum belly.
But what if your body doesn't need another quick fix?
What if it needs a better understanding of what it has actually been through?
Because postpartum recovery isn't only about:
“How do I lose this belly?”
It's also about:
How am I recovering?
How am I eating?
How active can I safely be right now?
How does my body feel?
Am I experiencing abdominal or pelvic-floor symptoms?
What type of delivery did I have?
What does my body need at this stage?
That's why I created this assessment.
YOUR BODY DIDN'T CHANGE OVERNIGHT.
SO DON'T DEMAND THAT IT RECOVER OVERNIGHT EITHER.
Pregnancy takes months.
Your body spends that time adapting to support your growing baby.
Your abdomen changes.
Your posture can change.
Your pelvic floor experiences increased demands.
Your energy levels change.
Your sleep changes.
Your eating patterns may change.
Then delivery happens.
And suddenly you're recovering while caring for a newborn.
Midnight cries.
Breastfeeding.
Expressing milk.
Diapers.
Laundry.
Cooking.
Cleaning.
Trying to rest.
And somehow you're expected to:
“SNAP BACK.”
Please.
Take it easy on yourself.
Someone else's two-month postpartum transformation doesn't mean you're doing something wrong.
Every pregnancy is different.
Every delivery is different.
Every woman's body is different.
And every recovery is different.
MAYBE YOUR POSTPARTUM BELLY ISN'T JUST ABOUT FAT.
A postpartum abdomen can look different for many reasons.
Changes in body fat, abdominal muscles, posture, skin, bloating and other postpartum changes can all contribute to how your stomach looks.
Some women also experience diastasis recti, where the abdominal muscles become more separated during pregnancy.
But not every postpartum belly is diastasis recti.
And appearance alone isn't enough to diagnose it.
That's why I don't want to throw random “flat tummy” exercises at you.
First:
Understand where you are.
Then:
Decide what comes next.
🚶🏾♀️ YOU DON'T HAVE TO START WITH 10,000 STEPS.
The internet loves:
“WALK 10,000 STEPS EVERY DAY!”
But postpartum life isn't always that simple.
You may be recovering from childbirth.
You may be exhausted.
Your baby may wake several times during the night.
You may have household responsibilities.
You may barely have enough time to shower.
So your starting point should be realistic.
For some women, that may mean gentle movement.
For others, it may mean gradually increasing daily activity.
And depending on your delivery and recovery, some exercises may need to wait until you've received appropriate medical clearance.
Your starting point should be based on YOUR body.
Not somebody else's fitness level.
🌸 AND YES — YOUR PELVIC FLOOR MATTERS TOO.
Pregnancy and childbirth place significant demands on the pelvic floor.
Some women experience symptoms such as:
✓ Urinary leakage
✓ Difficulty controlling gas or bowel movements
✓ Pelvic heaviness or pressure
✓ Pelvic discomfort
✓ Pain
✓ Changes in sexual function
These symptoms shouldn't simply be dismissed as:
“That's what happens after having a baby.”
If symptoms are concerning or persistent, appropriate medical or pelvic-health assessment may be necessary.
Once you're appropriately cleared for exercise, pelvic-floor and whole-body strengthening may become part of your recovery.
🤱🏾 WHAT ABOUT BREASTFEEDING AND WEIGHT LOSS?
Let's talk about this honestly.
If you're breastfeeding, your body has increased nutritional and energy demands.
That doesn't mean you have to stop caring about your health.
But I don't recommend jumping into:
❌ Crash diets
❌ Severe calorie restriction
❌ Extreme detoxes
❌ Aggressive exercise
especially during early postpartum recovery.
Instead, start with the foundation:
NOURISH YOUR BODY.
BUILD HEALTHY HABITS.
RECOVER.
MOVE APPROPRIATELY.
And when you're ready, appropriately cleared and your circumstances allow, you can gradually work toward intentional body-composition goals.
There is no universal six-month deadline that determines when every breastfeeding mother should start losing weight.
Your readiness depends on your individual recovery, nutritional needs, breastfeeding situation, health status and appropriate professional guidance.
🍚 HEALTHY EATING ≠ CALORIE DEFICIT.
I want you to understand this.
You can improve your diet without intentionally eating in a calorie deficit.
You don't have to eliminate carbohydrates.
Rice isn't your enemy.
Bread isn't automatically bad.
Beans aren't a magic weight-loss food.
And you don't need to survive on cucumber and boiled eggs.
Instead, start building balanced meals.
For example:
Rice + beans + vegetables + egg
Rice + fish/chicken + vegetables
Potatoes + eggs + vegetables
Beans + plantain + vegetables
The goal is to create meals containing a useful combination of:
Carbohydrates + protein + fibre + vitamins + minerals + healthy fats.
😂 LET'S TALK ABOUT BREAD AND TEA.
Postpartum mothers are busy.
I know.
Bread is quick.
Tea is quick.
Biscuits are quick.
Sugary drinks are quick.
And when you've been awake with a baby all night, nobody wants to spend one hour preparing a complicated meal.
But convenience shouldn't become your entire diet.
I'm not saying:
“NEVER EAT BREAD AGAIN.”
No.
Instead, improve the meal when you can.
Instead of:
Bread + tea
Try:
Bread + eggs + fruit
Instead of:
Biscuits + sugary drink
Consider:
Fruit + yoghurt or another nourishing snack
Instead of making rice the biggest part of every meal, pair a moderate portion with protein, vegetables or beans.
We're not trying to make your life harder.
We're trying to make your existing habits better.
🥗 PRIORITIZE NOURISHMENT.
Your body needs nourishment too.
PRIORITIZE PROTEIN
Eggs, beans, fish, chicken, meat and other protein-rich foods.
Protein supports tissue repair and helps maintain and rebuild muscle.
EAT VEGETABLES
Ugu, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables available to you.
EAT FRUITS
Banana, orange, watermelon, pawpaw, apples and other fruits.
KEEP CARBOHYDRATES IN YOUR DIET
Rice, potatoes, yam, oats, beans, plantain and other carbohydrate sources can provide energy.
INCLUDE HEALTHY FATS
Avocado, nuts, seeds and other appropriate sources of dietary fat.
STAY HYDRATED
Especially while breastfeeding, make hydration part of your routine and drink according to your thirst and needs.
And if you experienced significant blood loss during childbirth or have been told that you are anaemic, speak with a healthcare professional about your individual iron needs.
Nourish yourself so you can care for yourself and your baby.
🚫 DON'T SKIP MEALS JUST TO FLATTEN YOUR STOMACH.
Please don't punish yourself for having a postpartum body.
Don't make starvation your strategy.
Don't rely on dangerous mixtures.
Don't use extreme detoxes.
Don't exercise excessively when your body needs recovery.
Your body is recovering.
And if you're breastfeeding, your body is also supporting your baby's nutritional needs.
You need nourishment too.
❤️ YOUR BODY IS NOT YOUR ENEMY.
Social media can turn postpartum recovery into a competition.
Someone posts:
“2 MONTHS POSTPARTUM — BACK TO MY OLD BODY!”
And suddenly you're wondering:
“What's wrong with me?”
Nothing.
You are seeing one person's body.
You don't know her pregnancy.
You don't know her delivery.
You don't know her health history.
You don't know her genetics.
You don't know her routine.
And you don't know whether her approach would be appropriate for you.
HER TIMELINE IS NOT YOUR DEADLINE.
SO WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS ASSESSMENT?
The EDEL-QUEEN Postpartum Body Recovery Assessment is designed to help me understand your current postpartum situation before giving you general beginner-friendly guidance.
Instead of giving every woman the same exercise routine, I want to understand:

You may be:
Exhausted.
Overwhelmed.
Anxious.
Frustrated.
Lonely.
Or simply tired of pretending that everything is fine.

Asking for help is not weakness.
It is part of recovery.
❤️ FROM ONE POSTPARTUM MAMA TO ANOTHER
I'm a postpartum mother too.
I've been there.
And I'm still there.
So I understand the pressure to:
“Get your body back.”
But your body isn't something you lost.
It changed because you carried life.
Now the goal isn't to punish it until it looks familiar again.
The goal is to understand it.
Nourish it.
Strengthen it.
And give it time.
You don't have to do everything today.
You don't have to be perfect.
You don't have to look like another woman.
Start where you are.
Work with the body you have today.
Let progress happen gradually.
YOUR BODY DIDN'T FAIL YOU.
IT CARRIED LIFE.
Now give your body the same kindness you're giving your baby. ❤️
