Visitors who can’t find it, don’t buy it
WordPress’s built-in search is slow, ugly, and only searches posts — never your WooCommerce products. Every visitor who hits it and gives up is a sale or a pageview you’ll never see in your analytics. Smart Search fixes that with a single floating icon that opens an instant, live-typing search modal covering your entire catalog: blog posts and store products, together, ranked and shown with a thumbnail, an excerpt, and — optionally — the price.
Smart Search vs. the alternatives
- Live results as you type: Default WordPress Search — ✗ (reload required); Typical Search Plugins — Sometimes; Smart Search — ✓ (300ms live)
- Searches products and posts together: Default WordPress Search — ✗; Typical Search Plugins — Rarely; Smart Search — ✓
- Shows thumbnail + excerpt + price: Default WordPress Search — ✗; Typical Search Plugins — Varies; Smart Search — ✓
- Floating icon, zero theme editing: Default WordPress Search — ✗; Typical Search Plugins — Varies; Smart Search — ✓
- Setup time: Default WordPress Search — —; Typical Search Plugins — 15–30 min; Smart Search — Under 2 minutes
- Ongoing cost: Default WordPress Search — Free; Typical Search Plugins — Often subscription; Smart Search — One-time payment
What’s inside
- Floating search icon (choose the corner) that opens an instant modal — works on any theme, no template edits
- Live, debounced search as the visitor types (min. 2 characters, 300ms delay — fast without hammering your server)
- Searches posts and WooCommerce products together, up to 8 results, each with thumbnail, excerpt snippet, and a type badge
- Optional price display on product results (your call — toggle on or off)
- `[megastore76_search]` shortcode to embed the same search box inline anywhere — a page, a widget, a header
- Full control panel: which post types are searchable, result count, placeholder text, icon position, and colors to match your brand
FAQ
Will it slow my site down? No — search runs through a lightweight REST endpoint only when the visitor is actively typing, and results are capped and debounced.
Does it work with my theme? Yes. It’s a self-contained floating widget — it doesn’t touch your theme’s template files.
Can I turn off product search and just search posts (or vice versa)? Yes, both are independent toggles in Settings.
Do I need to know code to install it? No. Upload the zip through Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, activate, and configure from the Settings menu.
Honesty note: this is a single-site license for one WordPress installation. It’s a self-contained plugin with no ongoing subscription — future feature updates aren’t automatic, so if you’d like a newer version down the line, just get in touch.
