Why There Was No Book for This — So I Wrote One


Go looking for a book on solar power today and you'll find a shelf groaning with guides. Almost every one is written for someone with a camper van, a sailboat, or a cabin in a temperate country who wants to charge a laptop off-grid for fun.

Fine books. Useless to you if your job is to power a Nigerian village.

Because a mini-grid is not a big version of a rooftop system, and a community is not a camper van. There was no single book that took an engineer who can already wire a rooftop and walked them — all the way through — to designing and delivering a real mini-grid in our part of the world: the calculations, the network, the metering, the regulation, the field craft, and the business of it.

So I wrote one.

I'm Abiodun Ojobaro. I'm a practising power engineer, registered with COREN. I trained at RENAC in Berlin and at the Siemens Power Academy. More to the point: I have designed and commissioned these systems in the field — in our heat, our dust, under our regulations, with our supply chains and our budgets.
