This dissertation examines the role of Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) Mechanisms in the resolution of disputes in international trade. The dissertation argues that contrary to the polemics by critics, ISDS is a necessary tool for promoting trade between states and it does not undermine the sovereignty of states or limit their ability to regulate in the public interest.
