CVC Word Builder – Short Vowel Phonics Activities
Help learners build confidence with CVC words, short vowel sounds, blending and early reading through a structured sequence of phonics activities.
CVC Word Builder provides focused practice with simple CVC words across all five short vowel sounds: A, E, I, O, and U. It is designed to support phonics teaching, early reading practice, intervention, small-group instruction, and independent literacy activities.

Build the Word
Learners look at a picture, say the word, listen for each sound, and build the word using letters or letter tiles.
This section practises:

Complete the Word
Learners look at a picture, say the word, identify the missing vowel, complete the CVC word, and then blend and read it.
This provides additional practice identifying medial vowel sounds in CVC words.
Check Your Answers
A dedicated answer section allows learners and teachers to check completed words, say each sound, blend, and read the word aloud.
Mixed CVC Review
The mixed review section combines Short A, E, I, O and U so learners can practise identifying the middle vowel without being told which vowel family they are working on.
This provides an opportunity to apply short vowel knowledge more independently.
Letter Tiles
Printable lowercase letter tiles are included for hands-on CVC word building.
Teachers can cut out the tiles and use them repeatedly with the Build the Word activities. For durability, the tiles can be printed on cardstock and laminated.
The vowel sets can also be stored separately for easy access during phonics lessons and small-group activities.
