ABSTRACT

Maritime piracy and terrorism in Rivers State territorial waters have emerged as significant threats to maritime security and the broader economy. This study investigates the nature, causes, and impacts of piracy and terrorism within Rivers State territorial waters. The research analyzes various factors contributing to these illicit activities, such as political instability, economic deprivation, and inadequate maritime security measures. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, case studies, and interviews with key stakeholders, this project identifies the socio-economic and environmental implications of piracy and maritime terrorism, including their impact on international trade, oil exploration, and coastal communities. The study also evaluates the current legal and military efforts by the Nigerian government and regional actors to combat these threats, while exploring the role of international collaboration in maritime security enforcement.
