About the story
When Alhaji Nuhu died, Ruqayyah was left hollowed out.
For sixteen years, she had loved him fiercely despite the age gap, despite the tribal differences, despite the quiet sacrifices she made believing she was his only wife, his trusted companion. She gave him loyalty without question and faith without doubt. In return, she thought she had a life.
His death shattered that illusion.
Left behind with three children, fragile twins and a mildly autistic child, Ruqayyah believed her struggle would be grief, survival, and learning to raise her children alone. She was wrong. What awaited her was far deeper, darker, and crueler than widowhood.
Barely hours after his burial, a woman appeared… introduced as Alhaji Nuhu’s wife of eight months. Before the shock could settle, another emerged, his wife of over twenty-five years, standing confidently with grown children Ruqayyah had never known existed. Entire lives. Entire families. Hidden in plain sight.
As secrets unravel, Ruqayyah discovers that the man she trusted completely had scattered his truth across decades. Worse still, his family, who never truly accepted her,.now treat her grief as inconvenient, her pain as insignificant, her children as outsiders.
Scattered Dust is not a gentle story of loss. It is a raw exploration of love, friendship , trust, betrayal, silence, and the kind of grief that has no witnesses. It is about a woman forced to rebuild herself while standing on the ruins of a marriage she thought was real,.only to realize she was living inside a lie and that lie might be for a reason,
This is a story of shattered trust, inherited pain, and survival when dignity, love, and faith are tested beyond endurance.
