SO WHAT IF I AM STILL SINGLE?
Reclaiming Joy and Sovereignty in the Face of Societal Verdicts
DEDICATION
I dedicate this book to those who have carefully tested their relationships, offering their hearts with sincerity, only to find themselves unfavourably dumped. This is for the resilient souls who have decided to move on in spite of the crushing weight of depression.
As Helen Keller wrote in her 1903 essay, Optimism, “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” May you find your light again and realize that your ending has not yet been written.
PREFACE
In many corners of the globe, a woman’s life is treated like a race against an invisible clock. From the moment she comes of age, the air around her thickens with expectation. Whether she exists in a community that prizes betrothal at age twelve or one that demands academic accolades first, the pressure is a constant companion.
As Maya Angelou famously wrote in her 1993 poem for the inaugural ceremony of President Bill Clinton, On the Pulse of Morning, “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.” This book is an interrogation of the silence that follows a woman as she approaches forty. It is a defense of the individual soul seeking peace in a world that insists she is "incomplete" without a man.
