This book argues for a diet entirely from the vegetable kingdom, excluding meat, fish, fowl, milk, eggs, and anything derived from them.
It was adapted from the English edition for American readers.
Using animal products like milk, butter, or eggs creates a mixed diet not true vegetarianism.
Defenders of meat-eating often speak of “humane slaughter.” Yet even experts disagree on what method is most humane: the poleaxe in England, the mallet in Germany, throat-cutting by Jewish butchers, or stabbing in Italy. Each group insists its method is kinder but obviously, they cannot all be correct. As Lieut. Powell noted, this alone shows that cruelty is inseparable from killing.
