Society and culture endorse premarital sex without thinking about the dangers it pose to teens and single adult. Teens and single adults live with pressure from friends and peer groups to engage in premarital sex.
Their friends, relatives, peer groups and the media try to convince them that it is old fashion to marry as a virgin. Many a times, those who pressure others into premarital sex want them to do so because, they have lost their virginity and will do everything possible to ensure that many others share in the scar and regret of losing ones virginity to a partner that is not worth having it.
In the midst of these pressures, teens and single adult strongly desire to wait for sex until marriage but they are searching for answers as to why they should wait for sex until marriage. Single people believe that sex with someone they love is justified and that only sex with prostitutes or multiple sex partners is wrong.
The most confusing story is that even Christians with long time commitment to Jesus are not convinced that they should wait for sex until marriage.
A great number of Christian singles argue that Gods law on premarital sex is no longer valid because society, media, and culture have changed a great deal. They believe that Gods law on premarital sex was written at a time when bible characters were not exposed to love or sexually explicit materials.
However, Paul's letter to the Corinthians proves that the church had to deal with sexual immorality. This is what the scripture says,
“It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you
1 Corinthians 5:1 (New International Version).
The laws of God remain the same in the 19th, 20th, or 21st century; it never changes. If the laws of God on premarital sex is no different from the laws of adultery or stealing, why then do single people find it difficult to obey.
Teens and single adults must understand the reason God laid down laws on sex is to prevent them from being destroyed. God does have mans best interest at heart, whether we believe it or not. If God says, do not commit fornication, it is because He wants to save single people from the shame and heartbreak that come with disobeying Him.
God tried to save Adam and Eve from the stronghold of death by commanding them not to eat of the forbidden fruit but they would not listen. Similarly, curiosity as to why God will give them a sex urge and command them not to act on it leads youths into engaging in premarital sex.
It is a mystery why man delight in acting the wrong way even when he knows the right thing to do.
People know that God frowns at sex outside of marriage but they are eager to understand why God would create them with a sex urge and still command them to avoid sex outside of marriage. They so often believe that if God wanted them to save sex for marriage, He should have created them in such a way that they will not experience sex urge until the wedding night.
Has anyone ever wondered why an earthly father would not let his 10-year-old son drive his car, even though he is a potential heir to all his inheritance? Has anyone ever wondered why the government of a country moves to implement a law that prohibits a minor (a person less than 18 years of age) from driving a car?
People younger than 18 years overcome the temptation of driving a car because they know that if they break the law, law enforcement agents would punish or send them to jail. Gods laws are for our protection.
This is in no wise different from God saying, Do not engage in sex outside of the confines of a marriage. Why do people find it difficult to obey Gods commands but eagerly obey earthly government?
Why does the government of a nation punish citizens that fail to pay their taxes, yet encourage them to disobey the commands of God? Are the laws of God not superior to the laws of any government? Is it because God is not physically present or because He is plentiful in mercy? Could it be because God does not always have an immediate punishment for sinners?
Dad says you cannot drive his car until you are 18 years old. Government says you cannot acquire a drivers license until you are 18 years of age. God says that sex outside of marriage is prohibited. Why were all these laws made available to human kind? These laws were created to protect and guide man.
They were created so that man can act in an orderly and acceptable way. Life will be much more easy and pleasing if man sticks to Gods plan for sex. God does not say sex is forbidden; He only says there are consequences that come with engaging in sex outside the confines of marriage
