The Cursed Waters of Lake Victoria

This is not just a tale—it is a haunting legend from the shores of Lake Victoria (formerly Nam Lolwe).

The story follows Adhiambo, a beautiful woman from a wealthy family whose tragic loss turned her into a water spirit, and Nyamgotho, a man of pride and greed who rose from poverty to wealth through her powers. But when Nyamgotho’s arrogance grew, he defied Adhiambo, mocked her warnings, and married other wives.

In fury and sorrow, Adhiambo abandoned him, an in turn of events he transformed into a grotesque tree—his arms forever raised in agony, his body reeking of blood, rot, and sorrow.

That tree still stands today in Homa Bay County, a place so cursed that locals abandoned it. It has since become a tourist attraction site
