THE BUSINESS OF THE PALACE

Every believer is, in some measure, being prepared for a palace. It may not have marble floors or a throne in it, but it will have kings in it — men and women of influence, authority, and resource before whom you will one day be required to stand.

Daniel and his three friends did not enter Nebuchadnezzar’s palace by accident. They were carried there, tested there, trained there, and ultimately promoted there — not because they schemed for position, but because they carried an ability that qualified them to stand, and a conviction that protected them from what would have disqualified them.

This book was written to answer a question many carry quietly: now that I am in this place of influence, what is my business here, and how do I not lose myself in it? It is written for the one already inside the palace, and for the one still being prepared to enter it.

The foundation running beneath every chapter is simple: excellent service is what secures a man reward and recommendation among kings. Not flattery. Not politics. Not compromise. Excellence — the kind that got Daniel promoted under four different kings and three different empires.

It is my prayer that as you read, you will not only understand the business of the palace, but you will be found faithful in it — and that you will last, and finish well, wherever the King has called you to stand.
