The Exit Code

I didn’t set out to become a scammer.

I set out to survive.

Growing up as the youngest of seven children in Nigeria, I had real dreams. University. A future my parents could be proud of. A life built on something honest. I believed hard work would be enough.

It wasn’t.

When poverty entered our home it didn’t take just our money. It took my sense of what was possible. One compromise led to another. One small decision led to a lifestyle. And before I understood what was happening, I had become someone I once would not have recognized.

The Exit Code is the true story of how that happened.

Fake identities. Real victims. A family’s trust quietly destroyed. EFCC cells and public humiliation. The particular loneliness of a life built entirely on lies — including the ones you tell yourself.

But it is also the story of what happens when the mask finally cracks.

Of grace arriving from a direction you never expected. Of a confession that should have ended everything — and instead became the beginning of something true. Of the slow, unglamorous, daily work of becoming a person you can actually live inside.

This is not a book that glorifies fraud. It shows what that life truly costs — not just legally, but psychologically, relationally, and spiritually. It is about poverty and pressure and the dangerous space between a closed door and an open trap. About identity lost in small decisions and found again through painful truth.
