The story explores the themes of patriotism, national pride, and community service through the experiences of Tobi and his friends, Amina and Chinedu. It conveys that patriotism involves taking responsibility and actively contributing to the betterment of our community. The story also demonstrates how Tobi's arrogance after leading the Independence Day parade led him to disrespect two strangers only to later discover they were esteemed scholars visiting his school. This humbling experience taught him the importance of respect which prompted him to apologise and embrace humility and kindness towards others. The narrative also shows how Tobi and his friends organised a Community Clean-Up Day exercise to inspire others to improve their environment and donate to a neighbouring community in need to demonstrate the importance of helping others in difficult times. The story teaches valuable lessons on unity, collaboration and service to inspire young readers with a relatable and engaging illustration of how they can contribute to the future of the nation.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Simon Adekunle loves teaching children through practical illustrations. He believes that children are the future of society, which is why it is essential to instil the right values in them. He has written other novels such as Honour Your Parents and Timi and His Friends. He holds a Ph.D in Business Administration and lectures in the Department of Business Administration at the University of Benin, Nigeria. He is happily married with children.
