What was your reaction when you looked through your plans in 2024 towards the end of the year? How did you feel Excited? Disappointed? Accomplished?
You would agree with me that your reactions must be commensurate with the results you accomplished by year-end.
2024 was that year for me. I took on significant projects. I decided to do the things I dreaded the most, like organising a live LinkedIn event and hosting top personalities in the education space, like the past immediate commissioner of education in Lagos state, Nigeria.
Another thing I did was fill out the form to contest the position of campus liaison officer in the Young Engineers Forum of Nigeria (Nigeria Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch). Of course, I won the elections. The interesting thing I would like you to know is that I have always been an introvert, even as a kid, so going all out to achieve all of these is a loud one on my part.
In 2024, I got invited to speak to the mechanical engineering students at one of the top polytechnics in Nigeria. Towards the year's closing, by December, I got invited to deliver a virtual presentation, sharing my engineering career journey with a class of high school students in the United States.
These, amongst many others, are some of the highlights of my year in 2024. You can rest assured that 2025 is packed full of things because I will be going on equipping visits with the Young Engineers Forum to universities and National Youth Service camps in Lagos state, Nigeria. I also started a book club for students in Nigeria, thus contributing my quota towards the United Nations sustainable development goals 4 and 8, so do not be surprised if I get called up by the UN officials later this year to speak at one of their summits.
I would not like to bore you with my past, current, and future works, as you are the focus of this conversation. This platform is for anyone struggling to stay committed to their year-long plans. If you do not have an accountability partner to keep you focused on your personal and professional goals, it is for you. It is for you if you have decided to make great strides in the social impact space in 2025.
In 2024, I made a lot of pitches to people doing excellent work in different spaces, and the live conversation I had was not an exemption. I reached out to all of the speakers at the event via LinkedIn, and we finally came to a concession that made them show up to speak on the event day. In 2025, you can trust that I have actively commenced my pitching strategy, considering the great work to accomplish this year.
