CHAPTER ONE

WHY DO I NEED TWO HEAR GOD'S VOICE?

John 10:27 (NKJV) – My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

When a shepherd calls his sheep, it is for two main purposes:

1. To Keep the Sheep from Going Astray.

The voice of God calls us continually so that we will follow Him day and night. Whenever a Christian begins to drift away or backslide, it is usually because such a person has become distant from God’s voice and can no longer hear His call to return.

But when the voice of God is still active in a man’s life, he hears it whenever he is about to go astray. That voice corrects his steps or warns him to avoid coming danger.

When a shepherd searches for a lost sheep, he uses his voice along with his effort to find it, so that when the sheep hears, it will run back to him.

In the same way, we need to hear God’s voice consistently, because it is His way of calling us to keep following Him despite distractions or temptations.

A soul that cannot hear His voice will eventually become a lost sheep.

Saul neglected the voice of God and became a lost sheep, cut off from the Lord’s presence. He could no longer hear God’s voice, and in his desperation, he sought a word through the spirit of Samuel (1 Samuel 28).

And remember every mistake a man make in his life is made when he is far away from the voice of God.

2. To Make Provision for the Sheep

The second reason a shepherd calls his sheep is to provide for them. This is even more critical. A shepherd rears sheep for his own purpose, and the sheep’s existence is tied to fulfilling that purpose.

Likewise, we belong to God because we exist to fulfill His divine purpose on earth. The voice of God calls us into alignment with His purpose for our lives. His provision is tied to those who live according to His will.

Psalm 23:1 (NKJV) – The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

When your life is not guided by the voice of God to know His purpose, you cannot truly be His sheep, and His provision will not follow you. People who fail to find their purpose in Christ end up chasing other things outside of God, which cannot give them eternal value or provision.

Mark 8:36 (NKJV) – For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

God’s provision within His purpose for you is not just for your daily bread. He can make you a source of bread for others and, above all, grant you an inheritance in His eternal kingdom.

CONCLUSION:

If there is anything you should never lose, it is the consistent hearing of the voice of God.

Romans 8:14 (NKJV) – For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
