The Day I Watched a Harvest Die

I'll never forget the Sunday everything fell apart.

It was December 2018. Pastor Adeyemi's church had just experienced what every pastor dreams of—a genuine move of God.

The altar call that morning wasn't planned. The Holy Spirit showed up in a way no one expected. Seventy-three people rushed to the front—tears streaming, hands lifted, chains breaking. It was beautiful. Powerful. Historic.

The sanctuary erupted in praise. This was the breakthrough they'd been praying for.

Pastor Adeyemi stood at the front, overwhelmed with gratitude. After ten years of faithful preaching to the same 120 people, God had finally sent the harvest. He took down names. He prayed over every single person. He told them, "Welcome to the family. Your life will never be the same."

And he meant it.

Three Months Later, I Got the Call

"Brother, I need your help. Something's wrong."

Pastor Adeyemi's voice was heavy. Defeated.

I asked him what happened. He said, "Remember those 73 people from December? Only 11 are still here. The rest… they just disappeared."

I asked him the hard question: "What did you do after that Sunday?"

Silence.

Then he said, "I prayed. I preached. I believed God would keep them."

"But did you follow up?"

Another long silence.

"I mean… I sent a group text on Monday. I told them we're here if they need anything. But… no, I didn't call them individually. I didn't have a system. I just… assumed they'd come back."

And there it was. The problem in one sentence.

He prayed for the harvest. God sent it. But he didn't have a net to hold it.

The Harvest Wasn't the Problem. The Net Was.

Let me take you back to Luke 5:4-7.

Jesus told Peter to cast his net into the deep water. Peter obeyed—reluctantly, skeptically, but he obeyed.

And then it happened.

"And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink."

The catch was so massive, the nets couldn't hold it.
