ENERGY TRANSITION TRACKER TOOL (GLOBAL SOUTH)

Tracking the energy transition is essential because the global energy landscape is transitioning to cleaner energy sources, to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote sustainable development, albeit the difference in the pace of the transition in the Global North and the Global South; given the varying dynamics prevalent in the respective countries in regions across the globe. 

Tracker tools help to monitor and evaluate progress, identify areas for improvement, and facilitate data-driven decision-making to support a successful and efficient energy transition.

Electricity Lawyer has developed a tracker tool to monitor and assess the progress of countries in meeting their respective clean energy targets and energy transition goals. 

The renewable energy targets of the countries in the Global South can be tracked against each country's energy production/electricity generation from renewables and fossil fuels across selected reference years, benchmarked against the International Energy Agency (IEA) projected year-on-year population increase in Africa; as a basis for assessing the corresponding energy generation from renewables, in subsequent years; to ascertain the progress or regress by the respective countries in meeting their energy transition goals; using a modified International Energy Agency (IEA) pathway(s) as a benchmark.
