MISSION 300: A Route to Africa's Development or Just Another Empty Buzzword?

About the Policy Paper

This policy paper examines the recently launched 'MISSION 300' of the World Bank and African Development Bank (AfDB), which aims to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by year 2030. The paper analyses the Initiative in the light of the World Bank template, previous electrification projects of the Bank, and projects incorporated into the MISSION 300 initiative. The paper provides policy alternatives that connect electrifying Africa with its overall development, especially in the wake of orientation towards clean energy. It also identifies stakeholders who will play major roles in actualizing these policies.
