Proposal for Establishing Gilead Centre of Hope, a Social Support Centre for Deprived Youth and Drug Addicts at the Manhyia Sub-metro in Kumasi.
Background
Located in Ghana's Manhyia Sub-Metro of Greater Kumasi, Gilead Seventh-day Adventist Church is an Adventist congregation with a strong youth ministry established in 2020. The primary goal of the church is to serve young people, particularly underprivileged and drug-addicts. Around 3,000 drug addicts reside in the Manhyia sub-metro and its surrounding area in a location known as Tinker. The largest slum in Greater Kumasi, the Dagomba Line, is located between the Asokore Mampong district and the Manhyia sub-metro. Most of the kids in these neighborhoods grow up to be drug addicts and dropouts.
Project Overview
The Gilead Centre of Hope will be a hub of resources, mentorship, and activities for underprivileged youth and a rehabilitation centre for the drug addicts, providing a nurturing environment in which they can receive advice, support, and chances for personal growth. Our mission is to help these young people overcome adversity, develop valuable life skills, and reach their full potential. The center will provide a variety of services, including:
Academic support and enrichment services include TVET training, resources and technology, and workshops on study skills, time management, and goal setting.
Life skills development includes workshops on financial literacy, budgeting, and entrepreneurship, as well as job ready training such as résumé creation and interview skills. Initiatives for leadership development and mentorship
To support emotional well-being and mental health, certified experts will offer counseling services. Peer support groups and initiatives to raise mental health awareness.
Recreational and creative engagement options include sports, team-building exercises, and physical training programs, as well as artistic and cultural events including music, dance, drama, and visual arts. Community events and outings that promote social connections and a sense of belonging.
Budget and Funding:
We have estimated the initial investment required for the establishment of the Gilead Centre of Hope to be Six Million Ghana Cedis (GHC 6,000,000) approximately Five Hundred and Twenty-two thousand United States Dollars (USD 522,000). This budget encompasses building a two-story structure with offices, auditoriums and an accommodation facility, equipment, staff recruitment and training, program development, and initial operational expenses.
The Church has already started the project with the foundation completed. The initial investment by the church into the project is about Fifty Thousand United States Dollars (USD 50,000)
The Church intend to seek funding through grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and community fundraising initiatives. We are confident in our ability to secure the necessary funding given the urgency and potential impact of this project.
