Sub-saharan Africa is the world's leading maternal and child morbidity and mortality region, responsible for almost 70% of maternal deaths and 50% of infant deaths globally.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, childbirth kills 200,000 mothers every year. However, this is just one of the reasons pregnancy and childbirth are life-threatening for women in the region. According to the World Bank, 1 in 5 women in Nigeria will suffer a pregnancy-related mental health disorder. This increases the risk of obstetric complications and maternal and infant death. Sadly, women's access to mental healthcare in the country is very limited – and less than 3% of the annual Nigerian budget provides care for mental health disorders.

At MIKEDCAREs, we are expanding access to perinatal mental health care in Nigeria & Africa. Since 2017, we have provided over 5,000 expectant and new moms with responsive, relevant, and robust perinatal mental healthcare services. This has not only significantly improved their overall health, but also the wellb-being of at least 15,000 infants, fathers, and families.

To close the gaps in our goal of making access to perinatal mental health care accessible and affordable in Africa, Parents & Mothers who are having a hard time with the birthing experience can now access perinatal mental health therapy with this service.

Care can either be structured or flexible based on the need of the mother or parent.

Perinatal mental health care holds your hands to foster a sense of Support and elevates self-care & self-development which comes from access to the right information that sets you up on the right track in parenting.
