
The quality of education in any nation is significantly influenced by the competence and qualifications of its teachers. In Nigeria, particularly within junior secondary schools, concerns have been raised about how teacher qualifications impact student performance. This study investigates the effect of teachers’ qualifications on students’ academic achievement in Junior Secondary Schools in Enugu North Local Government Area. With a focus on the discipline of Social Studies, the research assesses the extent to which teacher credentials and experience influence learning outcomes. Utilizing a descriptive survey design and a sample derived from a population of 4,000 students, the study gathered data through structured questionnaires and analyzed responses using simple percentage methods. The findings underscore the critical need for schools to prioritize the recruitment of qualified and experienced teachers, while also recommending ongoing professional development and robust monitoring systems. This paper aims to inform educational stakeholders and policymakers on the importance of teacher qualifications in improving student achievement and the overall standard of secondary education in Nigeria.
