How Felix Ohaeri Used Selar to Make ₦10 Million in a Month Selling Courses
Felix Ohaeri is a digital marketing consultant who transformed his expertise into a passive income goldmine. While managing his agency, Throne Digital, Felix created an AI course that generated nearly ₦10 million in sales in just one month on Selar, attracting students from nine different countries.
Here’s how Felix built his digital empire and why Selar became the foundation of his course business.
How did Felix get into digital marketing?
The Need for More
Like most people in their early years, Felix did not start with everything figured out ahead of time. He wanted financial freedom and needed to find an efficient way to reach it.
But he did know that he didn’t want to become an employee in an organization or even a civil servant, despite having the opportunity to do so early on.
“I didn’t know what to do, but I knew what I didn’t want to do, so I wrote down the things I didn’t want to do and asked myself: how can I become financially independent without going through the normal routes?”
Felix’s First Steps
The first step in that process for him was immersing himself in knowledge. A big believer in capacity development, Felix Ohaeri took the time to gather information and read books like Robert T. Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, a piece of literature that would go on to significantly shape his perception of money and work.
In his second year at the university, he eventually had what would be the first major step in the direction of digital marketing for him. His friend, who worked as a social media manager and earned ₦30,000 at the time, told him about digital marketing and the opportunities it provides. He found all of this appealing and achievable.
So, evolving from his previous business ventures of fruit juice selling and an e-commerce startup that failed, he set up a landing page called “Online Business Brand.” The first milestone of this business outfit was earning his first ₦1,000 by helping someone post content.
Interestingly, he didn’t even keep it.
“When that money came in, as a Christian, I felt inspired to sow it into someone’s life. So, I gave it to a friend who was leading a fellowship.”
Growth and Evolution
In the months following the creation of his first page, Felix’s journey evolved organically.
He moved into graphics design with CorelDRAW, creating flyers and logos for businesses going digital, and soon found himself with multiple clients who needed his services, as several businesses wanted to go online and expand their earning options.
The numbers compounded, and he made his first million from putting pixels together on CorelDRAW, bypassing Photoshop due to its complexity for him.
In the process, however, he noticed something peculiar.
“Some of my graphic design clients started having issues with making sales online, so I learned digital marketing.”
“I went to Udemy, downloaded everything about Facebook ads, studied extensively, and started running ads for my clients. Digital marketing paid more than graphic design and gave me more leverage.”
That was how it began.
Before creating and selling his course with Selar, what challenges did Felix face?
While he realized he needed an ultra-efficient way to make money, he wasn’t without challenges at the beginning.
First, there was doubt.
It’s a challenge we’ve seen many creators deal with. There’s often the concern about whether or not it’ll work out, if it’ll be a path worth pursuing, and what it’ll take to get it done.
“I was very, very skeptical launching the course. I had prepared my materials and done the videos, but it took me 7 to 14 days before I decided to launch it,” Felix admits.
Initially, he started with a two-day live class format, which generated significant interest. He then created a pre-recorded version and hosted it on an instant messaging application. This was before he made the pivot to Selar.
But, with that came a different challenge.
There were too many people, and his platform of choice was grossly inefficient for managing students, course materials, payments, etc.
“We had so much influx of students that [the third-party application] couldn’t handle it. People were requesting features that weren’t on the platform, and others said the course was too bulky and wanted it broken down.”
The overwhelming response forced Felix to find a more suitable platform, one that could handle the volume of students and provide the functionality both he and his students needed.
Then came Selar.
How did Felix discover Selar?
Selar was first introduced to Felix in 2021. He gave it an initial spin and found that it worked just as it was promised to.
Over the years, his usage dropped, but when his course began picking up steam and gaining popularity without a reliable platform to keep things efficient and organized, he realized he needed a solution quickly.
There was no time to build a website from scratch, so he simply paid for a year-long subscription on Selar, which allowed him to save 20% on subscription fees.
What makes Selar such a great tool for Felix?
Above all else, Felix appreciates Selar’s simplicity and functionality.
“It’s easy to use, not complicated, and has a great user experience. It’s also mobile-friendly, and the customer support is great.”
“Another major thing is that Selar helped me receive payments from multiple countries at the same time. If I wanted to [receive] USD payments myself, there would be a lot of factors involved, and I didn’t have time for all that.”
How did Felix manage to make roughly ₦10 million in one month with Selar?
Before going into his strategy, it’s important to note his most impressive numbers and the circumstances around them. Below are Felix Ohaeri’s stats:
- Roughly 10 million naira made in a single month
- 45-55 students per day on average
- Up to 70 students on weekends
- Students from 9 different countries
At the time he achieved most of these, he had no affiliates, no major community, and very few initial reviews. So, how did he do it?
First off, he focused on creating the right product at the right time
One of the things Felix believes in the most is the importance of demand and timing.
At the moment, artificial intelligence is taking off across the world, and it’s become such a key part of people’s lives and work that it’s impossible to deny its impact. As a creator, Felix already has experience implementing AI into his workflows, and with the increased demand it has seen in recent times, it only made sense to create a course around it.
Afterwards, he built a landing page as a part of his sales funnel and included a killer offer
Selar has a landing page builder that allows you to create sales pages that focus your marketing efforts on achieving one specific outcome. In Felix’s case, that outcome is getting people to buy his course. All the copy, testimonials, and case studies on his landing page exist to help achieve that single purpose.
Most importantly, he invests heavily in marketing
It is possible to use organic promotion tactics to convert visitors and digital audiences into customers online as a creator. We’ve seen other creators do this and even documented how they did it and what their journey looked like.
But Felix took a different path, investing a third of all his earnings into advertising.
“Any amount we make in a month, we spend one-third of that on marketing. We’re doing about three times return for every dollar spent.”
So, with roughly ₦10 million in sales within a single month, we can safely estimate he’s spent ₦3.33 million on advertising. It’s a level of investment and commitment to succeeding with his course that many would consider admirable.
How did Felix’s Selar-powered sales funnel contribute to his success?
Felix highlighted three key points in this regard:
- It demonstrates excellence, which is a trust signal for purchase.
- It follows the rules of engagement by giving people something to go through to understand what they’ll be getting, as research and an understanding of a product are key factors that influence a buyer’s purchase decision
- It includes strategic elements that aid conversion. Think customer reviews, student work samples, tailored copy, etc.
“There’s a reason why certain parts are there […] and those things help in converting your ads as well.”
About Felix’s course
“The course brings people into the consciousness of AI, how to use AI, and then sets frameworks to help you monetize AI.”
Felix’s Magnetic AI Course serves as an introduction to AI awareness and practical application. It covers various professional applications:
- Creating AI-powered campaigns for digital marketers
- Fashion model creation for social media managers
- AI applications across different skill sets and departments
He is also developing a more advanced course focused on building AI agencies.
What advice does Felix have for aspiring creators?
Felix breaks his advice into five clear points for creators in the early parts of their journey:
- First, it’s important to have the right mindset. “If your mind hasn’t captured the possibility, no matter what you do in marketing, it will bounce back to the level of your mind.”
- Timing and demand are non-negotiable. Felix, for instance, chose a topic that’s currently driving conversations and then created a course about it.
- Focus on a niche and master a skillset before moving on to the next. While it’s important to be diverse, mastery comes from concentration and practice.
- Understand how money works.
- Finally, “the most sustainable way to prosper financially is to be extremely valuable in an area where there is high demand.”
