There aren't many of us Christians in the herbalism field. I noticed it over a decade ago, back when I was in college getting licensed in this field — I'd look around at conferences, in textbooks, in the wider herbalism community, and it was rare to find another christian in the room. Rare to find anyone who shared my faith, let alone anyone willing to talk openly about how it fit or didn't fit with everything we were learning.

And I understood why, pretty quickly.

Because herbalism doesn't exist in a vacuum. Nature, worship, ritual, witchcraft, occult practice they're so often woven into the world of natural health that it becomes genuinely difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins. You pick up a book on herbal remedies and three pages in, you're being asked to invoke a spirit. You look into "energy work" and suddenly you're deep in territory Scripture warns us away from. It's not always obvious. It's not always labeled clearly. And for a lot of good, honest believers, that ambiguity is enough to make them walk away from herbalism altogether — even when all they wanted was to understand how to care for the body God gave them, using the plants He placed on this earth.

If that's you, I want you to know you are not alone in asking this question.

"Can Christianity and herbalism actually mix? Or is this whole world rooted in something I shouldn't touch?"

It's a fair question. Herbal tradition, across almost every culture, does carry real ties to pagan practice, to ritual, to spiritual frameworks that don't line up with Scripture. Pretending otherwise wouldn't be honest, and I'm not interested in pretending.

But here's what over a decade in this field, and a lifetime in my faith, has shown me: the existence of pagan herbalism doesn't mean herbalism itself is pagan. Plants aren't the problem. God made every one of them, on the same day He made you, and called all of it good (Genesis 1:29-31). The question was never whether the plant is safe to use. The question is what you attach to it — what spirit you invoke over it, what worldview you frame it inside of, what you're actually trusting when you reach for it.

That distinction changes everything. And it's exactly what I wanted to put in your hands.

After years of navigating this field as a believer — sorting out what's genuinely just plant medicine from what's wrapped in practices Scripture warns against, I put together the resource I wish someone had handed me back in college. The Intersection of Sacred Herbs and Faith walks you through exactly that: real, practical herbal knowledge, paired consistently with Scripture and prayer, with the boundaries clearly drawn so you never have to wonder what you're actually participating in. No invocation. No ambiguity. No choosing between your faith and your care for your body — because you were never actually required to choose. You just needed someone who'd already walked the path to show you where the lines are.
