Core Values (a series)

Core Values is a series containing three graphite pencil drawings:

• Sanctuary
• Bliss
• Eternity

In my mind, my lens through which I see the world, I see a lot of "forgetting" and shifting; society losing itself and forgetting to value and cherish what matters. I see virtuous and commendable culture being eroded and replaced with something sinister.

• Young people are shunning the love they received, despising sacrifice of their beginning, seeing parental care as an entitlement rather than a grace.
• People are either avoiding marriage, having framed it as a transactional and a narcissistic enterprise and those who do marry are now half committed or non-committal - the exact opposite of the marriage vows.
• Growing old together is now a fading memory, no longer the dream for the masses anymore. The celebration of old couples is now a party with few attendees.

With incremental realism (each piece having more realism than the last), I sought to confront anyone looking with what matters. I'm challenging them, you... To remember the "Core Values" and preserve them.

This series, "Core Values" is me saying to society, don't lose these.

The artworks were created using charcoal graphite and carbon pencils on Strathmore Bristol Vellum 300 series paper.

Sanctuary is 11" x 14"

Bliss is 10" x 14"

Eternity is 12" x 16"
