CRIME AND THE POLITICAL PROCESS IN 🇳🇬

🗒️ COURSE DESCRIPTION

Crime and the Political Process in Nigeria examines the relationship between crime,

political activities, political institutions, power and governance. The course introduces students to the ways in which criminal behaviour may emerge within, influence, or be used in political processes.

Particular attention is given to political thuggery, electoral violence, corruption, abuse of political power, political conflicts, anarchy and other forms of criminality associated with political competition and governance.

The course also examines the historical development of political processes in

Nigeria, including important developments from the colonial period through the post-independence era, military rule, the transition to democracy and the Fourth

Republic from 1999 to the present.

The course is designed to enable Crime Management ⚖️ 👮 🚨 🚔 students understand political crime not merely as an individual criminal act but also as a phenomenon that can involve groups, institutions, political actors and the misuse of public authority.
