Grant Writing and Mastery Masterclass

The Grant Writing Mastery Programme is a hands-on, practitioner-led training that takes participants from a blank page and an intimidating call for proposals to a complete, fundable grant application. It is built on a single conviction: grant writing is a craft that is learned by doing, not by listening. Every concept in this programme is first taught clearly, then demonstrated live on a real example, and then practised by participants on the spot.

Over three days of intensive instruction followed by two days of guided mentorship, participants do not merely learn what a proposal should contain – they build one, section by section, against a live, advertised funding opportunity, under the guidance of an experienced evaluator and grant writer.

The promise

By the end of the programme, a participant should be able to read a call for proposals, decide whether to pursue it, and independently draft a competitive, donor-aligned grant application – complete with a problem statement, theory of change, logframe, budget and narrative.

1.1 Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to:

1. Interpret any call for proposals and extract every eligibility, technical and compliance requirement.

2. Make a defensible go/no-go decision and align an organisation’s mandate to a donor’s priorities.

3. Write an evidence-based problem statement and needs analysis.

4. Design a results logic – goal, outcomes, outputs – and build a theory of change and a logical framework.

5.  Develop a project description, methodology and targeting strategy that match the donor’s logic.

6. Prepare a credible budget and a budget narrative that aligns line-by-line with the activities.

7. Address MEAL, sustainability, risk and cross-cutting issues (gender, safeguarding, inclusion) convincingly.

8. Assemble a compliant submission package and self-review it against the donor’s scoring grid.
