JCI 101: A Seamless Guide to Starting Strong in JCI by Sam Femi

When I joined Junior Chamber International (JCI), I didn’t fully understand the vastness of what I had stepped into. Like many new members, I was eager, passionate, and hopeful, but also unsure about where to start, how to fit in, or what I could become. Over time, I discovered that JCI is not just an organization; it is a living system of opportunity, growth, leadership, and global impact. It is a place where ordinary individuals are equipped to do extraordinary things.

This manual was born out of that personal journey.

As the 2025 Director of Membership Growth and Development at JCI Lagos Coral, one of Nigeria’s most vibrant Local Organizations, I’ve had the honour of walking closely with new and intending members, listening to their questions, watching their growth, and supporting their transitions from curious observers to confident leaders. In that process, a recurring need became clear: members need a roadmap. A clear, engaging, and empowering resource to help them understand, navigate, and maximize their JCI experience from day one.

The JCI 101 Manual is my response to that need.

Whether you’re an intending member wondering what JCI stands for, a newly inducted member unsure of your next steps, or even an active member seeking to deepen your engagement, this book will walk with you. From understanding JCI’s mission and structure to mastering parliamentary procedures, volunteering for impact, leading projects, and building global networks, this manual is packed with practical insight, real examples, and pathways for growth.

But beyond the information, my hope is that this book will ignite something deeper in you, the belief that you belong here, and that you can lead from wherever you are. JCI is not for the perfect; it is for those who are willing to grow. This community exists because people like you showed up, spoke up, and served up solutions that made the world just a little better.

As you flip through these pages, I encourage you not to read passively. Take notes. Reflect on your own goals. Volunteer. Show up for projects. Ask questions. Raise your hand. Sit at the table. Lead. And then empower someone else to do the same.

Let this be more than a manual. Let it be a mirror — one that shows you who you’re becoming and reminds you that within JCI, the only limit is the one you do not dare to break.
