Prayer is a Journey by Fanny Ekpekurede

Prayer is a theme in the Christian faith that cannot be over-emphasized. There are many good and instructional books on prayers. So, why another book on prayer? This was the question that plagued my mind when the Lord instructed me to write on Prayer while seeking Him from December 2016 – January 2017. I was a bit reluctant because I felt there were lots of good and insightful resources on Prayer. While seeking God in prayers I expressed this thought and asked Him what the title of the book should be, considering there were lots of books on the subject and He said, “PRAYER IS A JOURNEY” I was surprised and my first response was “Wow! The Journey of Prayer”, but He responded by saying “No!!! PRAYER IS A JOURNEY”. Then He told me the book should reflect His desire for intimacy with His children; the various ways He has, all through history, reached out to man; and the secrets of prayer that I have personally gleaned over the years.

God does not want us to patronize Him because we have one need or the other, He does not want us to pray out of religion or fear of the devil etc. He truly longs for fellowship; He wants us to know that prayer is much more than satisfying our needs, or a means of gratifying the cravings of the flesh. It is more than warfare against demons because, for some, prayer is only about fighting the devil.

The title ‘Prayer is a Journey’ reveals the heart of God for this generation. Prayer is first and foremost about God. He is the central figure and He desires to take us on this journey. The prayer journey is an interesting journey of discovering God, abiding in His secret place, beholding His beauty, receiving His wisdom, power, grace, etc. It is an intimate journey that only you can embark on for yourself. The endpoint of this journey is God. You will be ravished with His love and changed into His likeness. You will see Him as He is, and you will know and experience the joy and blessings of co-

labouring with Him in prayers for His Kingdom to be made manifest on the earth.

It is a call and a summon to walk with God like Enoch and to come up hither like Apostle john. I can still hear Him whisper your name, ‘my child…’ I pray that you heed this invitation to come.
