You want an international career. But where do you actually start?
Thinking Beyond the Classroom is a 3-week bootcamp for law students and recent graduates who want to explore opportunities beyond their university and country.
Because saying “I want to work internationally” is easy.
The harder questions are:
Where do I find the right opportunities? Which ones should I actually pursue? How do I prepare for them? And how do I make my profile stand out?
That is what we'll work through together.
This is not a public international law class, your university already teaches you the law. This is about what you can do with that degree beyond the classroom.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Explore opportunities beyond your university
Get familiar with the kinds of international opportunities available to law students and recent graduates, including internships, fellowships, competitions, publications, research programmes and other opportunities. You’ll also learn where to look, how to find opportunities independently, and what to pay attention to when you come across one.
- Build practical legal skills
The bootcamp will give you opportunities to work on legal research, writing, analysis, advocacy and professional communication through practical activities and exercises. Learn how to assess opportunities. You don't need to apply for everything you come across but you’ll learn how to assess an opportunity against your interests, experience and career direction, so you can make better decisions about where to invest your time and effort.
- Strengthen how you present yourself
Your CV is only one part of your professional profile. We’ll look at how your academic work, research, writing, competitions, projects, interests and experiences can come together to communicate what you are interested in and what you can contribute.
You’ll be placed in groups with participants from different countries and work together on selected activities throughout the bootcamp. This gives you the opportunity to exchange ideas, collaborate with people from different backgrounds and experience what cross-border professional collaboration can look like.
- Start thinking beyond the next application
By the end of the bootcamp, you should have a better understanding of the opportunities available to you, the skills you need to keep developing, and the areas you want to pursue further. More importantly, you’ll have a better idea of what your next steps can look like.
