As you might have known every stroke is brain related and the brain controls several body functions. Body movement, sensory,cognition, visual, auditory, speech and others depends on the brain to function.
As a result, a stroke or damage in any area of the brain that controls these vital functions will obviously impact on the survivor.
Most parts of the brain are divided into two parts; left and right hemispheres. One side of the brain controls functions on the opposite side of the body. That is why if a stroke occur in one location in the brain it will affect body functions on the side opposite to the area of brain damage.
Aside from the left and right divisions, the brain is also broken into regions, areas or “zones”. Each of these areas perform specific functions or share functions with others. Hence a stroke in any of these areas will produce side effects in a unique way. There are eleven of these regions or areas of the brain where stroke is most likely to occur. Part one and two of this book covers the eleven regions or areas. Part one focus on the first six regions, while part two discussed the remaining five.
In this book, the brain regions where stroke can occur is named after it. For instance, a stroke in the frontal lobe is named the frontal lobe stroke, while a stroke in the brain stem is named the brain stem stroke and so on. Where applicable it considered; how it occur, symptoms, causes, side effects, treatment, rehabilitation and the road to recovery.
One thing that determines the severity or otherwise of post-stroke effects is the location.
