''It was about 1984/85 and we were at our weekly poetry club meeting in the Department of English, University of Lagos. Late Esiri Dafiewhare was the coordinator, having done the mandatory national service the year before. He had been able to attract students from different backgrounds and disciplines to Ijiomi Poetry Club.

One of such attractions was the quiet and reserved Lampe Omoyele who came from the Faculty of Science. Science? I wondered what business he had with creative writing.
