When the Rain Falls explores the social issues in Nigeria through the eyes of Kemi, a young adult whose experiences reflect the realities of those around her. The novel uses Kemi's immediate environment, particularly the compound in which she grew up, as a lens through which these social issues are revealed. As Kemi navigates friendships, family dynamics, new relationships, and personal disappointments, she gradually develops a deeper understanding of herself and the world around her.

In the process, she is forced to confront emotions and experiences that she has carried silently for years, revealing how personal struggles can be shaped by the wider social environment.

Tolulope Thompson is a Nigerian-born novelist whose fascination with storytelling began long before she wrote her first book. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Babcock University before moving to the United Kingdom to study Law. Her debut novel marks the beginning of her journey as a fiction writer.
