About the Book
So many young people want to make a difference but don't know how. The simple decision to change the lives of 200 Widows and 28 orphans in a rural village in kwara state through the NYSC community development service project changed my life forever. In this book, I will show you the power of one solitary dream.
I have documented my story in this book with lessons for how you can create that change in your community. Your NYSC year is one year that if maximized properly can be the key which unlocks your future. Many young people ask this question - I have observed this problem in my community but I have no idea how to make the change, I don't know how to seek for funds and I don't know if my solution will be accepted by the community.
In this book I have shared my story how I raised 2 Million naira, the funds I needed for my project (In 2013, this was a lot of money) how I was tempted severally to do things that go against my morals, faith and ethics to raise the money, how I was beaten up for not sharing some of the money and how I overcame these obstacle.
This book includes 10 chapters and each one talks about major milestones and struggles I faced whilst working to achieve my goals and then step-by-step lessons you can follow to achieve your goal of making impact in your community.
The book intends to be a guide to you as you go through the journey of making change in your community. This book has been provided for free because I want to support you with the counsel you need because the place of making Change is a lonely place but I'm here for you to be the pointer which you can look to and go the right direction. I have also created a group for you where you can interact with other young change makers who are creating community impact during their NYSC year. My name is Glory. I am your spirit angel here to guide you as you make that change in your community.
The success of my project – The construction of a cassava processing factory that provided jobs and a microfinance scheme for 200 widows - led me to meet, interact and receive recognition from global leaders including President Obama, Ethiopian President - Sahle Work-Zewde, US Senator Chris Coons, US Mission in Nigeria, US Ambassador to the UN, US Minister for Energy - Mark Menezes to mention but a few for want of space., all of which give my work global exposure and made me who I am today.
My NYSC project enabled me to create the career which I now work in. I created Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute - RETTI (Rd More: https://courses.retti.com.ng/) which has trained and supported 720 solar engineers to provide access to clean electricity in Nigeria by installing more than 250, 000 WATTS (250KW) solar electricity for 1213 homes and businesses offsetting 471 tons of carbon dioxide. I created Glow Initiative for Economic Empowerment (www.glowinitiative.org) working to harness the economic resources of communities and empower them and has so far improve the livelihood of over 3000 people. I also founded one of Nigeria's leading climate advocacy group - Climate Smart Nigeria (Rd More: bit.ly/3iSKxzX).
My career today which was inspired by my NYSC project has till date has inspired numerous people in Nigeria and fetched me more than 20 local and international awards.
I have written five other books advocating for climate change and renewable energy. I hope to go this journey with you.
