I still clearly remember the pain and embarrassment of shutting down my first business after only a year.
As a young, eager entrepreneur I had jumped in too quickly without properly planning my publishing business idea or getting the necessary skills. When sales struggled to take off, I realized I was over my head.
It was a tough lesson that discouraged me and reconsidered if I wanted to start a business again.
For more than three years, I focused on improving my job skills instead of chasing my dream of helping businesses grow. I was really excited about supporting business owners to increase their profits, and I noticed there were opportunities around me to offer consulting and training services. So, I decided to take a bold step and start fresh to pursue my passion.
Finally, I started to regain the courage to try again. One lesson that stuck with me is that ideas require a "birthing process" - they take time to fully form, just like a newborn baby.
Reflecting, my first business collapsed because I missed some steps in the idea validation phase. This time, I took it slower to properly plan and validate my idea before starting.
I also invested heavily in educating myself. I listened to business advice from podcasts, training, books, and also networking. The knowledge I consumed gave me more confidence, but even more importantly I sought out direct coaching.
Hiring an experienced consultant, to walk me through turning my idea into an actual business was the best investment I ever made and having my dream finally come through made the effort completely worth it! But I've also learned that no business idea is bulletproof. There will always be challenges.
This story is more than a decade old now, I now run multiple profitable businesses, applying the lessons I picked up from failing and falling.
In 2024 I don't want you to make the same mistakes I made, that is why I have decided to be a guiding light and mentor to 20 people interested in setting up and maintaining a profitable business in 2024.
