
The Façade Nigeria Periodical is a compilation of intriguing information regarding Nigeria’s history circa 1800s-mid 20th century ranging appointments in the colonial government service, weddings, timeline of events in Nigeria, details of events etc.
On December’s cover, we have share a timeless photo of the historic Fanti (Christmas) Carnival, held every Christmas Day in the Brazilian Quarters, Lagos Island, Lagos, as well as other carnival photos from the Campos Caretta Group, Lafiaji Group, and Okepopo.
Christmas came with entertainments and activities for residents of Lagos Colony, as well as other parts of the Yoruba Country (now South West Nigeria) including the Saint Gregory’s Roman Catholic Grammar School Annual Entertainmemt, Abeokuta Recreation Club Sports, which we chronicle in this month’s issue.
We include part one of an inexhaustible list of the Jury List (you may find an ancestor, you never can tell) for the Lagos Colony Court for the year 1894 &c.
What’s ahead?
In January, we are looking at the evolution of the Yaba Garden Estate, which was set up by the Lagos Executive Development Board as a means to decongest Lagos (Island). We will include original maps as the development progressed.
