About the Piece:
"Trapped" represents the idea that one can be trapped by preset ideologies, peer and family pressure, societal stereotypes even when one has a goal to live outside of these restraints.
Just like the glass behind which the subject of my drawing is trapped, the things that hold us back are not as solid as we make them out to be. Breaking those stereotypes merely require boldness, a degree of boldness we may not yet know exists nor seek while we remain trapped.
The piece is a challenge for us to be bold enough to rip out those mental and emotional blocks imposed from without.
It's simply about choosing to live with the consequences of taking our own freedom, because it will mean breaking away, sometimes alone, sometimes with close-aides, nevertheless, breaking away.
And while it may be comfortable to stay within the trap, what we truly want is to not remain trapped."
As someone who abandoned a potential academic career to pursue a career in art, I faced a lot. I was trapped behind the glass, and breaking free really hurt. It hurt me a lot.
But I'm thankful for now. And I'm thankful for the future. There is freedom in boldness.
Once again, I present to you, "Trapped"... The story of my life, and reminder to you to take control of yours.
