Beware the Whitewashed Sepulchre

The story in 1 Kings 13 is one of the most sobering in all of Scripture—a tale of a man of God who began with bold obedience but ended in quiet disobedience, deceived by an old prophet who had long departed from intimacy with God. Josiah’s reforms fulfilled a long-awaited prophecy, yet he did not complete the heavenly task assigned to him. Why? Because he honoured the title and past work of the prophet who once spoke concerning him—unaware that the man’s life had become defiled by disobedience and buried corruption - whitewashed sepulchre. That misplaced honour became a snare. Though Josiah was destined to complete a divine assignment, he fell short by unknowingly allowing the bones of the old prophet to escape judgment.
