WHAT IS A BODY? Primer on the Body as a Site of Liberation

Imagine that this primer is a tasting menu—a curated body of work that provides insight into liberatory politics, philosophy, and critical pedagogy, with a nod to post-activism by Bayo Komolafe. However, instead of getting the whole dish, we have those tiny little spoons on a tray.  This primer assumes alignment with the critical questions and perspectives explored there, so it provides a level of comfort: that you are not mad (well, maybe), nor are you treading the waters of questioning and embodied displacement alone (well, also contestable depending on your corner of the world). The point is that this primer assumes you already feel discomfort with the current socio-political, socio-spiritual, and material realities and would like to explore further.

The content of this primer focuses on the social, cultural, and historical construction of the body and its lived experience in a world ordered and controlled by colonial logics. It operates on the assumption that exploring the multifaceted, multilayered, and politically charged concept of "the body" as a community effort sharpens our lens, provides personal comfort and nurtures revolutionary hope.  This primer, while primarily grounded in decolonial and feminist philosophy, is best utilised through conversations, meditation, reflection, introspection, and interactive workshops.
