I AM EDEN

The book I Am Eden: Embracing Spiritual Renewal and Rediscovering Your True Identity by Revd Hope O. Edosa is a masterpiece — highly inspirational and deeply impactful. It has the spiritual capacity to empower and transform a believer to a higher spiritual level. It consists of eight chapters, offering a thorough discourse on how to embrace spiritual renewal and rediscover one’s true identity.

Chapter One of this book emphasises the genesis of Eden. The author stressed that the Garden of Eden is not just a physical location, as it also portrays a theological and symbolical representation of God’s purpose for humanity, creation and His mission for an intimate relationship. The author carefully established that humanity was created as an active participant in God’s creative plan. In addition, God established a relationship of trust and obedience through which He granted Adam and Eve the freedom of choice. Chapter Two of this work emphasised how sin corrupted humanity’s identity. This led to a breakdown in communication between man and God. It resulted in separation from God’s presence, alienation, rebellion, loss of worship and divine judgement. The Garden’s role as a place of eternal life was disrupted. Light turned into darkness, joy became sadness and life changed into death. What a terrible consequence!

The author in Chapter Three stressed Eden’s restoration which became a reality through Jesus Christ ― the Last Adam. Jesus reversed the consequences of the fall through restoration, reconciliation and renewal. According to Edosa, Christ reclaimed Eden’s purpose and restored communion with God. Chapter Four centres on Eden and the indwelling Christ. The Old Testament was a physical structure set apart for God’s dwelling, worship and glory. Believers took over these responsibilities in the New Testament. What a great privilege!

Chapter Five discusses the roles of believers as the New Eden. The new identity has given believers better opportunities to serve as a place of divine fellowship, fruitfulness, a glorious future and spiritual fullness. Chapter Six concentrates on Eden and the Holy Spirit. The author emphasised the need for believers to bear the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit plays important roles in the lives of believers. He empowers, guides, sanctifies and transforms. The Holy Spirit must be the senior pastor of every believer. In addition, for an intimate relationship with God, believers must possess the fruit of the Spirit. Therefore, every believer must eat from the Tree of Life. This becomes a reality by feeding on God’s Word, walking in the Spirit, practicing love and good works, as well as consistent prayer. Chapter Seven discusses Eden and the fallen world. Believers are called to reflect God’s presence and glory in a fallen world by shining the light for others to emulate. They must put on the armour of Christ to remain victorious. The last chapter is on the witnessing Eden. It emphasises a believer’s role as a co-labourer with Christ. Witnessing must be embraced by all followers of Christ. It is a culture that must never be relegated to the background. This contributes immensely to the advancement of God’s kingdom.

The author has done a good job. This book has the potential to transform a careful reader. It is a unique contribution to spiritual transformation. It is a must-read for every believer who desires to develop a good relationship with the Trinity — the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
