WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

In this practical workshop, we will break down the foundations of Yoruba writing in a way that is clear, practical, and applicable to everyday writing.

You'll learn how to:

1. Identify Yoruba sounds

Before you can write Yoruba accurately, you need to be familiar with the sounds. We'll examine the sounds that matter for Yoruba writing, including vowel distinctions that are often overlooked.

2. Structure words into syllables

Learn how Yoruba words are structured into syllables and why syllable structure matters when you're writing in Yoruba.

3. Apply Yoruba orthography correctly

Why are some Yoruba words written with dots?

Why do some spellings that look familiar actually violate Yoruba writing conventions?

We'll examine the principles behind Yoruba orthography and some of the common mistakes people make when writing Yoruba.

4. Apply yoruba sentence structure

Many people struggle to write coherent sentences. Learning the fundamental structure of sentences will help you get rid of the struggle.

• Are learning Yoruba and want to build a strong literacy foundation
• Create Yoruba content, captions, subtitles, or educational materials

You do not need to be a linguist to participate.
