F​requently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Intermediate Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) Course (Level 2)

1. Who is this course for?

This course is designed for learners who have completed a beginner KSL course or possess basic Kenyan Sign Language skills and would like to advance their proficiency.

2. Do I need prior knowledge of sign language?

Yes. This is an intermediate-level course. Participants should have a basic understanding of KSL, including common vocabulary, greetings, introductions, and simple conversations.

3. How long is the course?

The course runs for 12 weeks.

4. When are the classes held?

Classes are held every Tuesday from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EAT), beginning on 30 June 2026.

5. Which platform will be used for the classes?

All classes are conducted online via Zoom.

6. What topics will be covered?

The course covers:

- Introduction to Intermediate KSL

- Language and Medium

- Characteristics of KSL and Effective KSL Storytelling

- Tenses in KSL

- Basic Sentence Structure

- Types of Sentences in KSL

- Structural Sentences

- Functional Sentences

- Deaf Culture and the Kenyan Society

- Practical signing and conversational skills

7. Are there assessments during the course?

Yes. Participants will complete Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) during the course to assess their learning progress.

8. When will the assessments take place?

- CAT I: 11 August 2026

- Final CAT: 15 September 2026

9. Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?

Yes. Participants who meet the certification requirements will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.

10. What are the requirements for certification?

To qualify for certification, participants must:

- Attend at least 60% of the classes.

- Achieve an average score of 60% or higher in the CAT assessments.

11. What happens if I miss a class?

You may continue with the course, but you must maintain at least 60% attendance to qualify for certification.

12. Is the course interactive?

Yes. Sessions include demonstrations, guided practice, class discussions, and opportunities to interact with the instructor and fellow participants.

13. How will I receive the Zoom link?

Registered participants will receive the Zoom link and joining instructions upon registration and before the start of the course.

14. Can I join the class using my phone?

Yes. You can join Zoom classes using a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with an internet connection.

15. Will there be a WhatsApp group?

Yes. All registered participants will be invited to join a WhatsApp group for announcements, reminders, learning resources, and communication with instructors.
