Making money as an affiliate usually works like this: you recommend a product, someone buys through your affiliate link, and you earn a commission. What if those same sales could earn you something extra?
Affiliate Challenges lets you participate in sales challenges created by Creators, compete with other affiliates and stand a chance to win monetary and non-monetary rewards. These rewards are in addition to the commissions you earn from your sales.
So, if you’re already promoting products on the Selar Affiliate Network, Affiliate Challenges give you another opportunity to earn more from your efforts. Here’s how they work and how you can make the most of them.
What Are Affiliate Challenges on Selar?
Affiliate Challenges are sales competitions set up by creators on Selar to reward affiliates for promoting their products and making sales. A creator can create a challenge around a product, group of products or their entire store, set a duration for the challenge and offer rewards to affiliates who meet the requirements.
Depending on the challenge, these rewards could be cash prizes or non-monetary gifts like laptops, smartphones, refrigerators, cars and other items chosen by the merchant.
The best part is that participating in a challenge doesn’t replace your regular affiliate commission. You continue to earn the commission attached to every eligible sale you make while also competing for the prizes offered by the creator.
For example, let’s say you’re promoting a product that pays you ₦10,000 for every sale. You join a 90-day challenge where the top affiliate receives ₦150,000. If you make 20 eligible sales, you could earn ₦200,000 in commissions. If your performance also qualifies you for the ₦150,000 reward, that’s an additional earning on top of your commissions.
The exact commissions, prizes and requirements will depend on the product and challenge you choose.
How to Find Affiliate Challenges on Selar
Finding a challenge is simple. Visit the Explore Challenges page on the Affiliate Network, where you’ll find challenges from different creators across the Affiliate Network.

You don’t have to scroll through every challenge to find one that interests you. You can search for challenges using keywords or go through them by category. So, if your audience is interested in business, wealth and finance, education, content and media, or another niche, you can narrow down the available challenges and look for something relevant to them.
Each challenge card gives you a quick look at the product and challenge before you decide whether you want to learn more.
Check the Challenge Details Before You Join
A big reward can get your attention, but don’t make that the only reason you join a challenge. Click the arrow on the challenge card to see more information.

Here, you can learn more about the challenge, see the available rewards, read the merchant’s description, and view other relevant information before deciding to participate. You can also select View Leaderboard to see the rankings for the challenge.
Take some time to understand what you’re signing up for. More importantly, consider whether the product itself is something you can realistically sell to your audience. A ₦500,000 prize may sound juicy, but if the product has nothing to do with the people you reach, you could spend weeks promoting it without making much progress.
How to Join an Affiliate Challenge
When you find a challenge you would like to participate in, here’s what to do: Click Join Challenge on the challenge page. You’ll see a disclaimer explaining that the creator manages the challenge and that participation is at your discretion. Selar isn’t responsible for reward fulfilment, payments or agreements between you and the creator.

Read the terms, tick the box to confirm that you understand and accept them, then click Yes, Continue to send your request. Once your request has been approved, you’ll receive an email letting you know.

You can then generate affiliate links for the challenge’s available products and start promoting them. You can also view the leaderboard to see where you currently rank.
Now the real work begins.
Choose Challenges Your Audience Can Actually Buy From
You don’t have to join a challenge simply because it’s available. Think about the people you’re selling to. What are they interested in? What problems are they currently trying to solve? What type of products have they bought from you before? What questions do they regularly ask?
If you’ve built an audience around career development, for example, you may have a better chance promoting a relevant career or professional product than suddenly trying to sell them something completely unrelated. Your existing audience should help determine which challenges deserve your attention.
This is especially important because winning a challenge isn’t the only way to make money. Every eligible sale can still earn you a commission. Choosing a product people are genuinely interested in means your effort can still pay off even if you don’t finish at the top of the leaderboard.
Don’t Join Every Challenge at Once
When there are plenty of rewards to compete for, it can be tempting to join several challenges and promote everything at once. But your audience has only so much attention, and you have only so much time.
Instead of promoting five unrelated products at the same time, consider focusing your efforts on the challenges where you believe you have the strongest chance of generating sales. Look at the product, your audience, the commission, the challenge requirements, the available rewards and how much time you have to promote it.
Then decide where your effort is best spent.
Make a Plan for How You’ll Get Sales
Joining a challenge isn’t the strategy. You still need a plan for generating sales. Before you start promoting, think about where your potential customers are and how you can reach them.
If most of your audience is on WhatsApp, you might use your Status, broadcast list or community to educate people about the problem the product solves. If you create content on TikTok or Instagram, you could create videos around the problem instead of repeatedly posting your affiliate link. You can also use email, Telegram, X or other channels where you’ve built an audience.
Don’t make every piece of content “Buy this product.” Explain the problem. Share useful information. Answer common questions. Show people who the product is for and why it might be useful to them. If the merchant provides affiliate resources, use them to understand the product and strengthen your promotion.
People are more likely to buy when they understand why something is relevant to them.
Keep an Eye on the Leaderboard
Once you’ve started making sales, check the challenge leaderboard periodically to see how you’re performing. If you’re close to a reward position, that information could help you decide whether to increase your promotional efforts before the challenge ends.
But don’t let the leaderboard be the only thing you think about. Pay attention to your own numbers too. Which posts are getting clicks? Which channels are generating sales? What questions are potential buyers asking? Which approach is working?
Use what you learn to improve your next promotion.
Your Next Sale Could Earn You More Than a Commission
Affiliate Challenges give you another way to make your affiliate marketing efforts count. You can discover products that fit your audience, promote them through your affiliate link, earn your standard commission on eligible sales, and compete for additional monetary or non-monetary rewards.
You don’t need to join every challenge you find. Start with one that makes sense for your audience, understand what you’re promoting and have a clear plan for generating sales. Then give it your best shot.
