About the Book

Two corpers. One state. Two completely different journeys.

When Omosebi Dabira and Oti Gen received their NYSC postings to Sokoto State, they had no idea their paths would cross—or that this northern city would become the backdrop for one of the most transformative years of their lives.

For Gen, it was rejection after rejection: a promised placement that fell through, a grueling two-day journey, and the constant weight of being the only female doctor in her department. For Dabira, it was a battle between obedience and ambition: fighting for a different posting, wrestling with God's voice, and learning to find purpose in the unexpected.

Together, as roommates in a small quarters at Specialist Hospital, they navigated language barriers, cultural shocks, extreme weather, mosquito-infested nights, and the daily realities of service in a land far from home. But they also discovered friendship, faith, community, and the quiet strength that comes from choosing to bloom where you're planted.

Memoir of Sokoto is more than an NYSC story, it's a raw, honest, and deeply inspiring account of resilience, growth, and the beauty hidden in life's most challenging seasons. Through alternating perspectives (OG's POV and OD's POV), you'll experience the full spectrum of service: the frustration and the fulfillment, the loneliness and the laughter, the chaos and the clarity.

Whether you're a prospective corper, currently serving, or simply looking for a story that reminds you that every season has purpose, this memoir will leave you with one undeniable truth: NYSC is not a scam. It's a seed. And against all odds, you can bloom.
