ABOUT THE BOOKLanguage users have no difficulty in forming words in their languages. This means that a speaker of a language knows infinite number of words, knows how the words are constructed and how they can be divided. Language speakers are, however, not conscious of this knowledge. The second edition of this book, Unlocking Morphology, tries to make explicit this knowledge. The author dissected and treated the basic rudiments of morphology using data and various examples drawn from about seventy languages. These give depth and clarity to the text. Unlocking Morphology is an ideal introductory textbook that is expected to engage and deliver basic contents to a wide range of readership. The chapters have been written to provide a systematic approach to the subject matter. Beginning with the explanations of basic terms and concepts, the chapters have been written to provide students with the various expressions of morphology. Written in flowing pedagogic style, Unlocking Morphology will surely be a touchstone for students studying morphology. The second edition has been improved with topic expansion, more data and more exercises. The chapter on inflectional morphemes has been restructured while some concepts have been redefined and other examples provided.
