The Audit-Proof ARO Engine: Professional IAS 37 & IFRC 1 Compliance Model

Stop Guessing on Complex Estimates. Start Calculating with Confidence.

Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO) are among the most scrutinized areas during an audit. A single error in discount rates, inflation adjustments, or timing can lead to material misstatements. I’ve seen it happen to the tune of $1.3 billion.

This model has been vetted based on years of experience as a Big 5-trained External Auditor (BDO) and firm wide technical expert. After leading risk-based engagements for multi-billion naira oil and gas and manufacturing giants, I realized that most teams struggle not with the theory, but with the mechanics of the calculation.

This isn't just a spreadsheet; it’s a standardized, professional-grade solution designed to withstand the toughest regulatory reviews.

Key Features

Dynamic DCF Engine: Automatically calculates Present Value (PV) using risk-adjusted discount rates and projected inflation.
Accretion & Depreciation Logic: Seamlessly handles the annual unwinding of the discount and the depreciation of the capitalized asset.
Automated Journal Entries: Generates clear Debit/Credit schedules for initial recognition, annual accretion, and year-end adjustments.
Sensitivity Analysis: Built-in "What-If" scenarios for changes in discount rates or settlement timing (a favorite for Auditors).
Audit-Ready Documentation: Clean layouts and formula transparency that allow your auditors to trace every Naira (or Dollar) back to the source.

Why This Model?

Most ARO templates are built by programmers. This template has been tested and verified by a Subject Matter Expert.

Battle Tested: Designed using the same logic I used to oversee high-judgment estimates for listed oil and gas companies.
Regulatory Alignment: Fully compliant with IAS 37 (Provisions), IFRIC 1, and GAAP frameworks.
Time Saving: Reduces days of manual calculation and formula checking into minutes of data entry.
