I had a good job at a law firm that pays a salary which is a little above the industry standard for core litigation firms in Ikeja Lagos.

Securing the job was, at that time, a dream come true. It was so because that was the first time I earned a decent pay. To add to that, the work atmosphere was one where expectations were high and surviving on the job was a function of performance on the assignments given.

However, the distance from my place of residence to my place of work is so far that I always arrive home very late in the night and have to wake up so early to be in the office before 8 am. According to the firm’s rules, coming late to work means forfeiting half of the day’s pay. The desire to escape that punishment was a great source of stress to me.

The cost of relocating to a house closer to the office was huge and I was not ready to make that change. This made me to decide to search for an alternative job. Considering the nature of my worry at that time, I had to clearly define the nature of my next job. For me, it must be a place where location will not be an issue. Again, I needed a work atmosphere where harmony will be promoted, and growth will be pursued without the constant fear of losing the job the next minute. These desires made me to decide on seeking a job where I can work remotely.

Having defined the nature of job I wanted, I created a plan on how to get it and started carrying out the tasks in my plan. Three weeks later, I got a new job at a company based in The Netherlands. The exact steps I took to make that happen are fully discussed in "The 15 tricks to get your dream job in 30 days" [Miracle, Co-author].
